Why am I getting dark images from my Canon Rebel |

When uploading my Chritsmas photos using Picasa I started to notice that I am getting a lot of dark photos that require fixing. This was confirmed when I turned on thePicasa histogram. I had also noticed this on my camera histogram but thought it was related to an invalid setting such as ISO, or AV or that my Sigma lens was dark.
After some investigation it seems there are a number of reasons forgetting underexposed images with a Canon Rebel and a number of issues to look out for when composition a scene and select the exposure:
- The Canon Rebel range is designed to underexpose photos that can then be corrected by software such as Photoshop of the Canon provider Zoombrowser. This reduces the chance of overexposure that can not be corrected by software.

- In all the creative modes P, AV, TV the evaluative metering mode only calculates exposure for a small area around the focus spot. The suggested method is to use the exposure lock on a grey area (middle tonal range) then select the focus point
