Starting in Montreal on the day of F1, we travelled to meet friends in Ottawa in our rented PT Cruiser (very cool looking). After dropping our bags off we all went to see another friend at his riverside house. There we spent the day on the river, first going on a trip down to the locks then racing the kids and myself along in a rubber float. We stopped this when William fell in and made a very dramatic scene.. We ended the day with a bbq. The next day we travelled to David's log cabin next to a lake. A beautiful location and just what you think of when people say they are staying at a log cabin in Canada. Unfortunately the weather was not so good but didn't stop us from swimming, fishing, canoeing, bbqing and generally eating too much.
Two days later we returned to Ottawa and starting planning the rest of the trip, with our local expert David. The following day, after a pancake breakfast, we started our journey to Prince Edward Island. After getting lost immediately, we found our own way to the very picturesque town of Kingston. After some sightseeing we continued on via the ferry to the Island. Arriving at our concrete block of a motel in the middle of a car park, we discovered it wasn't so bad on the inside and the kids were overjoyed with the crazy golf. The next day, Canada Day, we travelled to the "Dunes" beach to spend the day at a lake and play in the sand. Later we joined the locals and celebrated Canada Day. We stayed late to watch the fireworks, unfortunately, a few minutes before they were scheduled to start the heavens opened and the waiting crowds fizzled out.
The next day we got up early to start our journey to Guelph to meet my great Auntie. After a little pit stop for junk food and a little unsuccessful shop for power adapters, we called Auntie to tell her to come and find us as we were lost!! It was good to finally meet my great auntie in the flesh after 35 years or so. We also got to meet her son and daughters families who were all over for the Canada weekend.? The following two days were spent having BBQs, swimming in the pool and drinking Canadian beer. I was sorry to leave after such a short visited, hopefully she will come and visit us.
Our next visit was to Nigra Falls, where we spent the morning taking pictures and going on a trip on Maid in the Mist to the base of the falls.? The falls are amzing, right in twon, bu the town is very tacky, like a small Las Vegas, and we decided to move on after a few hours, travelling north to a top at small town called Bracebridge.
The following day was Williams birthday so we took him to a small amusement park called Santa's Village, and later to the cinema to watch 'Click'.
After talking to the manager of the travellodge who helped us book our next motel, we travelled up to Algonquin National park, to hike, visit the logging center and very well done visitor center.? That evening we travelled on through the park to a very nice lake side cabin resort.
Finally we had two days to rest, eat and spend swimming and Kayaking. I could have definitey spent a few more days at this place.? After what seems too short a stay we packed up again for our final leg back to Montreal.
The last few days were spent touring Montreal seeing the botanical gardens, Olympic Statium, biodome and old town.? Montreal is a nice city with an ever changing face.? When we arrived on F1 day the city was full of fancy cars and good looking people.? On returning the city had transformed for the Jazz festival and a very different Jazz loving, mainly black crowd.
Canada is a very easy country to travel around, the people are extremely friendly and helpful.? I wish we had spent more time at the lakes and could sample more of the local food but with children its difficult.
