The FAO Photo Club will meet every other Thursday at lunch time sessions and discuss the Photos taken for a particular theme. The 1st theme will be Summer Holidays. Photos will be displayed on a PC and projector and I have setup a Flickr Group called hte FAO_Photo_Club to hsot photos, however photos can also be brought on CD or memory stick on printed. Every now and again we will invite photographs and teachers to come and discuss their work with the club.
This is a photo club and not a touring club therefore we will limit the discussion to the photo itself and not the places we all visited. When you present your photos I would like you to talk about the following:
* Why did you take photo - what were you trying to convey?
* What did you like about the photo?
* How could you make the photo better?
* What are you going to do with this photo?
Please don't be shy, I have discussed this idea with a number of people and have heard comments such as I am not a professional, my camera is not digital, I shoot everything on automatic, what do I know about taking photos etc. The point is we all take photos and if you are coming to the photo club, I hope it means, you have some interest in photography and want to learn more about taking better photos. I have two goals for these sessions:
First, looking at other people's photos will stimulate new ideas that you can use for taking your own photos - I think this will become more apparent when we have a specific theme. Second, when taking photos in the future you begin to think more about the composition, lighting and scene you are trying to capture. We can all share what we know, to break the ice I can start by sharing next Thursday some very common Composition rules and see if they apply to any of our photos.
* Simplicity
* Rule of Thirds
* Liner
* Balance
* Framing
* Avoiding mergers
