Underwater Camera's
With two holidays this year in and around water I started looking for a general purpose camera that could be used in the water. Here were the choices I discovered:
The problem was they were expensive and the picture quality was poor as an all-purpose out-of the -water camera, or so the reviewers said.

In the end I purchased a Casio z100 because it was cheap and in the shop. This is a great party camera that slips into a pocket. To solve the waterproof issue I purchased a DiCAPac, an underwater ziplock bag that had great reviews.

IPOD for the Mini Cooper
I have a new Mini Cooper S that is just so much fun. I discovered after much searching on the web that you can install an AUX input for the 2003 radio to support MP3 devices.

The cable is called MINI Auxillary Audio Input and you can fine the installation instructions here http://www.toastman.net/aux_input.html.

There is also the option to build your own cable (http://www.neeshil.com/nsite/miniaux.asp)but this requires taking out the radio, a much more difficult task that I would like to avoid if possible so I am going to search for the cable to purchase on-line. [Read More...]
IPOD Volume issues
I really hate Itunes as its just too heavy and intrusive so now I use Winamp to upload and convert tracks to the IPOD.  While making this really great 80s playlist I noticed the volume output from my wife's 8gb Nano was really low. At first I thought it was an issue with using Winamp but with a little investigation on the web I discovered European Nanos have a volume cap.

Under Settings - Volume limit you can modify the highest volume the player will go to.  Unfortunately when I went to change this value I found it has a combination lock with a code that I had not set and did not know. I tried a couple of  things, one was to delete the file x:\ipod_control\Device\ LIMIT. Then I reset the device pressing and holding Menu and the OK button. This seemed to remove the code and I was able to increase the volume limit to something more sensible.

For new IPOD devices there is a utility called gopod that will remove the volume cap [Read More...]
